01 Special Act on Balanced National Development fully revised
- The Special Act on Balanced National Development was revised and enforced on Apr. 22, 2009 with the intent to institutionally support the regional development policy, which is characterized by 'enlarged economic region, specialization, autonomy and cooperation.'
- Also, the policies such as a three-tired approach to regional development strategies, restructuring of the planning system, and modification of regional development accounts have been newly reflected on the revised act.
02 Special accounts on Economic Regions and regional development reorganized
- The special accounts on balanced national development have been replaced with the special accounts on the development of Economic Regions, in order to follow the principle of 'local government autonomy and social responsibility strengthening,' and vitalize the Economic Regions.
- The special accounts on the development of Economic Regions have been introduced to support regional development projects requiring central government's orchestration beyond the level of metropolis and province, which include leading industries for Economic Regions and human resources cultivation, and infrastructure for Economic Regions.
